It was a staple winter dinner in our house.  We each ate it differently.  Mom would make skinny noodles with it.  Dad would cut up the cabbage, potato and meat and put it in his soup.  We would eat it on the side after we finished our soup.  It became a cold, wintery day tradition in our home and our kids appropriately renamed it “red soup”.  We still eat it differently.  Of course, there are still the skinny noodles.  The boys and I would still eat the veggies and meat on the side after the soup.  Jon just eats the soup.  I can’t make it without paying tribute to my mom and Aunt Bessie.  So here’s to you mom and Aunt Bessie!
